Overview
The Proton X70 is Al-Haj's locally assembled five-seat C-segment SUV, and the trim ladder needs reading twice. Executive AWD is the cheaper car at PKR 8,799,000, while Premium FWD asks PKR 9,299,000 and drives only the front wheels. Both figures are ex-factory, so freight, taxes and registration land on top; pay orders go to Al-Haj Proton and delivery is quoted at 2–3 months.
All-wheel drive is the entry point here rather than the flagship perk, so the extra PKR 500,000 buys equipment instead of traction — the reverse of the Haval H6 and most rivals in this bracket.
Exterior
At 4519 × 1831 × 1694 mm on a 2670 mm wheelbase this is a full C-segment crossover rather than a jacked-up hatch, and 200 mm of ground clearance is genuinely useful over the speed breakers and broken edges that punish lower SUVs here. LED headlamps with auto-on, daytime running lights and roof rails are standard on both. Executive rides on 18-inch alloys wearing 255/60 R18 rubber; Premium moves to 19-inch wheels on lower-profile 225/55 R19 tyres and is the only trim with the panoramic sunroof and power tailgate. Five colours are listed: Snow White, Armour Silver, Jet Grey, Space Grey and Ruby Red.
Interior
Five seats, a 515-litre boot and a 60-litre tank make this an easy weekend car for a family of four with luggage. Both trims get powered heated leather front seats, dual-zone climate control with rear vents, a digital instrument cluster, smart keyless entry and push-button start, which is a strong baseline rather than a stripped one. Premium is where the cabin catches up with the price: Nappa leather, ventilated front seats and glass overhead — and seat ventilation matters more in this climate than the sunroof does.
Infotainment
Both grades share the same 10.25-inch touchscreen with built-in navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth and voice control, so the basics are not trim-gated. The difference is narrow: eight speakers on Executive, nine plus wireless charging on Premium.
Engine / driving
Every X70 uses the same 1477 cc three-cylinder TGDi turbo petrol and 7-speed DCT, rated at 255 Nm, Euro 5, with a listed top speed of 190 km/h. Executive is quoted at 177 HP with all-wheel drive; Premium at 174 HP front-wheel drive. MacPherson struts up front, a multi-link rear, ventilated front discs and a 5.6 m turning radius suit town work, and hill-descent control and auto-hold are fitted to both. A 1.5-litre triple moving 1660–1675 kg has little in reserve once the car is full, so this is a relaxed cruiser rather than a quick one.
Safety
Both trims carry six airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, stability and traction control, tyre-pressure monitoring, ISOFIX anchors, an immobiliser and cruise control. Driver assistance, though, is Premium-only: autonomous emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, blind-spot detection and a 360-degree camera, where Executive gets a plain reversing camera. If active safety kit matters to you, the all-wheel-drive car cannot supply it.
Mileage
Brochure economy is 10 km/l in the city and 12 km/l on the highway, for a combined 11 km/l. City traffic with the air-conditioning working will sit at the lower end, and Executive's all-wheel-drive hardware and wider tyre will not help. The 60-litre tank still gives comfortable motorway range between fills.
Variants
- Executive AWD — PKR 8,799,000. The all-wheel-drive trim, and the cheaper one: 177 HP, 18-inch alloys, powered heated leather seats, eight speakers, reversing camera. No sunroof, no 360 camera, no driver-assist pack.
- Premium FWD — PKR 9,299,000. Front-wheel drive only and 174 HP. The PKR 500,000 step buys the panoramic roof, power tailgate, 19-inch alloys, Nappa leather, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, a nine-speaker system, the 360-degree camera and the full AEB / lane / blind-spot suite — equipment in exchange for the driven rear axle.
