There is no national vehicle register you can search. A car is on the record of the province where it was registered: Punjab’s MTMIS, Excise Sindh, or Islamabad Excise. The registration number’s letters usually tell you which.
Pakistan · Excise records
Check who a car is registered to, its engine and tax details, and whether it is reported stolen — on each province’s official service.
You’ll need
Opens the official MTMIS Punjab page in a new tab. We don’t see or store what you enter there.
What the record shows
MTMIS Punjab
MTMIS now asks for the registration date as well as the number — a bare number search no longer works.

Before you pay
Verification only helps if you compare the record with the car and the seller. Check these six things.
Owner name
Compare with: The seller’s CNIC
Red flag: A different name with no transfer letter from the owner
Engine number
Compare with: The number stamped on the engine block
Red flag: Scratched, re-stamped or not matching
Chassis number
Compare with: The number stamped on the body and the papers
Red flag: Welding marks or a mismatch — walk away
Make, model and colour
Compare with: The car in front of you
Red flag: A repaint not reported to Excise
Registration date and year
Compare with: The smart card or registration book
Red flag: Papers that disagree with the record
Token tax status
Compare with: The province’s token tax rules
Red flag: Arrears — they are collected from the buyer at transfer
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
KP Excise lists Vehicle Verification under e-Services, but the link was not working when we checked. Ask the Excise & Taxation office of the district where the car is registered to confirm the record.
On 13 October 2026 KP Excise announced a universal number plate, a smart card and an e-payment system. We’ll add the KP online check here once the service is live on the department’s website.
Guide
There is no national vehicle register you can search. A car is on the record of the province where it was registered: Punjab’s MTMIS, Excise Sindh, or Islamabad Excise. The registration number’s letters usually tell you which.
Of the services we checked, Excise Sindh is the one with a public search by CNIC, which lists every vehicle registered to one CNIC. Punjab’s MTMIS searches by registration number and registration date.
Many sites use MTMIS in their name — including for Islamabad and Sindh, which don’t use MTMIS at all. They are not government services. Use only the department’s own website or app, which is all this page links to.
Excise records show registration, not theft. In Sindh, CPLC checks its stolen / snatched vehicle database by phone (1102) — see the CPLC check.
A clean record is the start, not the end. Work out the transfer fee and any unpaid token tax, because both are paid when the car moves into your name.
