Overview
The Proton Saga is Al-Haj Proton's entry sedan, the cheapest four-door it sells and a step below the Proton X70. Three grades are listed for 2026: MT at PKR 3,749,000, AT at PKR 3,949,000, and ACE at PKR 4,099,000, all ex-factory before freight, taxes, and registration, with delivery quoted at 1–2 months.
The pitch is space for hatchback money: a 4335 mm sedan with a 420-litre boot at a price the entrenched Japanese small cars cannot match. The counterpoint is fair — the Honda City and Toyota Yaris hold value better, so the Saga trades resale confidence for equipment you use today.
Exterior
At 4335 × 1690 × 1515 mm on a 2465 mm wheelbase this is a proper compact sedan, not a hatchback with a boot grafted on, and 150 mm of clearance handles speed breakers, not broken side streets. Lighting is halogen across the range, the clearest place the money was saved; only ACE gets LED daytime running lights and body-kit styling. MT and AT sit on 14-inch alloys, ACE on 15-inch.
Interior
Five seats and that 420-litre boot are the argument here — more luggage room than anything else at this money. The cabin is plain by design: fabric seats, an analogue cluster and manual air conditioning, not climate control, on every grade. ACE adds keyless entry and push-button start plus an N95 filter that earns its keep in Lahore air; no grade gets a sunroof, wireless charging or cruise control.
Infotainment
All three grades share the same 7-inch Bluetooth touchscreen, so even the base car has a working dashboard. The catch is that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are ACE-only, leaving MT and AT on Bluetooth audio, and no trim has built-in navigation. If you navigate by phone, that alone justifies the top grade.
Engine / driving
MT and AT use a 1300 cc four making 93 HP and 120 Nm; ACE steps up to 1332 cc and 95 HP on the same torque. Both are naturally aspirated DOHC EFI units driving the front wheels, rated Euro 2, topping out at 170 km/h — adequate rather than quick, and overtakes need planning. MT gets a 5-speed manual; AT and ACE use a 4-speed automatic, an old torque-converter box that feels less polished than the CVTs in Japanese rivals but is cheaper to keep alive. The 5.2 m turning circle helps in tight streets, and braking is front discs with rear drums.
Safety
This is the thinnest part of the sheet. Every grade gets two airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX anchors, an immobiliser and an alarm, and that is the entire list. There is no stability control, traction control, brake assist or tyre-pressure monitoring on any trim; ACE at least adds parking sensors and a rear camera.
Mileage
Claimed economy is about 12 km/l in the city and 15–16 km/l on the highway, for 13 km/l combined — ACE sits at the lower end for its larger engine and wider tyres. The 40-litre tank means more pump stops than those figures suggest.
Variants
- MT — PKR 3,749,000. The value entry: 5-speed manual, 1300 cc / 93 HP, 14-inch alloys, 7-inch screen, two airbags. Booking PKR 749,800.
- AT — PKR 3,949,000. Pure convenience: PKR 200,000 buys the 4-speed automatic and nothing else changes. Booking PKR 789,800.
- ACE — PKR 4,099,000. The only real feature step: PKR 150,000 over the AT adds the 1332 cc / 95 HP engine, 15-inch alloys, LED DRLs, keyless entry with push-button start, CarPlay, parking sensors and the N95 filter. Booking PKR 819,800.
Alternatives
Closest on price and intent is the Changan Alsvin, the other value sedan trading badge strength for equipment. If resale and dealer coverage matter more than kit, the Toyota Yaris is the entrenched Japanese answer and the Honda City the class benchmark, though both start above the Saga and give up boot space. Buyers who do not need a boot should price the Suzuki Swift or cheaper Suzuki Cultus.
