Overview
The Hyundai Elantra is Nishat's locally assembled sedan, now sold in two very different forms. The 1.6 Special Edition at PKR 6,449,000 is a petrol automatic that undercuts most 1.6–1.8 sedans, and the Hybrid at PKR 10,761,000 is the economy-focused flagship. Prices are ex-factory before freight, taxes and registration.
The two are not just trims of one car. The Special Edition is a 4620 mm petrol sedan with a 126 HP 1.6 MPi; the Hybrid is a longer 4710 mm car with 139 HP combined from a 1.6 GDI and electric motor. The Toyota Corolla is the obvious rival to both.
Exterior
The Special Edition measures 4620 × 1800 × 1450 mm on a 2700 mm wheelbase and sits on 16-inch alloys with 215/55 R16 tyres. It has tetra LED headlamps, LED DRLs and tail lamps, a black rear spoiler, door visors and heated, auto-folding mirrors. The Hybrid is 4710 × 1825 × 1430 mm on a 2720 mm wheelbase with 150 mm of clearance, 205/55 R16 tyres and the H-shaped tail lamp. Hybrid colours are Polar White, Silver Metallic, Magnetic Force, Phantom Black, Oxford Blue and Fiery Red; the Special Edition adds Black Diamond, Graphite Grey and Teal Blue to its palette.
Interior
Both are five-seaters with a 60:40 split rear seat. The Special Edition uses fabric seats, manual air-conditioning with rear vents, an 8-way powered driver seat and a 407-litre boot. The Hybrid steps up to dual-zone climate and heated/ventilated front seats with a 402-litre boot. A sunroof is fitted to both.
Infotainment
Each has an 8-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, six speakers and Bluetooth. The Special Edition pairs it with a 4.2-inch TFT in an Optitron cluster; the Hybrid gets a 10.25-inch digital cluster and wireless smartphone mirroring.
Engine / driving
The Special Edition uses a 1591 cc MPi petrol four: 126 HP (94 kW) @ 6300 rpm and 155 Nm @ 4850 rpm, through a 6-speed automatic, with Sport / Eco / Normal modes and a 50-litre tank. The Hybrid pairs a 1580 cc GDI engine with an electric motor for 139 HP and 264 Nm combined through a 6-speed DCT, with a 42-litre tank. The petrol car is the simpler, cheaper ownership proposition; the hybrid is the one for heavy city mileage.
Safety
Both list dual front airbags, ABS, electronic stability control, traction control, hill-start assist, ISOFIX and a rear camera with dynamic guidelines. Neither Pakistan grade has Hyundai's SmartSense driver-assistance pack, so the safety gap to newer rivals is the same on both.
Mileage
The Hybrid's listed band is 22–24 km/l. Hyundai Nishat does not publish a km/l figure for the 1.6 Special Edition; expect typical 1.6 petrol automatic economy, well short of the hybrid in traffic.
